M.K. Ganapathy was from Rangasamudra village in Kodagu district.

Sources confirmed to The Hindu that he was posted as Dy SP in the office of IGP Mangaluru. “The way he went to Madikeri, gave an interview to a local TV channel in full uniform and later hanged himself in his uniform indicates that he may have planned his end. In a way, he has left behind an audio visual suicide note, which will now turn into very crucial evidence in the case,” a senior police officer said.

Sources told that Mr. Ganapathy checked into a lodge in Madikeri on Thursday morning around 10.45 am. The hotel staff told the police that he changed into his uniform in the room and left the lodge in an auto only to return in the afternoon.

He reportedly had lunch at the lodge before he was found hanging in the room. The hotel staff reportedly told the police that Mr. Ganapathy specifically enquired whether there was a fan in the room at the time of checking into the lodge.
