Tension prevailed at Napoklu in Kodagu district after miscreants dumped hooves of a slaughtered bovine at a temple gate on Wednesday.

The decomposed parts were found cloaked in a cloth and was hanging from the gate which triggered tension in the vicinity.

The local community members and activists of Hindu groups took to the streets to express their protest and demanded that the culprits be tracked and brought to justice.

The Hindu outfit leaders, who blocked the road for sometime, addressed their followers and described it as an attempt to poison the communal harmony and divide the society by miscreants during the festival season. Kodagu Zilla Panchayat president B.A. Harish, members Padiyamanda Murali, N. Kiran, and others were present. Madikeri DySP Sundaraj and other officials who reached the spot, promised the gathering that the culprits would be traced. Napoklu police have registered a case and are investigating.

As the news of the incident spread, there were protests in Madikeri as well. Agitators staged a rasta roko and submitted a memorandum to the district administration demanding that the miscreants be arrested and prosecuted at the earliest.
