There was a tension at Kakkera town in Surpur taluk of Yadgir district on Sunday after hundreds of residents staged a protest at Valmiki Circle with a body of a 15-year-old boy who was electrocuted.

The victim was identified as Jatteppa Ayyappa.

The residents alleged that the negligence of the officials of Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company had resulted in the death of the boy.

According to the residents, the incident occurred when the boy and his mother were watering the Valmiki Bhavan under construction.

Sharankumar Sollapur, member of Kakkera Town Municipal Council, told The Hindu that the officials of the power company had not removed a cable that crossed the newly constructed building despite a requisition.

When they contacted officials in Yadgir, they (officials) said that they would send local officials from Surpur to attend to the problem, he said.

Tulajaram Pawar, Section Officer, Devapur, under which Kakkera town falls, said that he was unaware about the requisition to remove the electricity cable as he was transferred here just 20 days ago.

He, however, said that he was on the way from Kalaburagi to Kakkera to make spot inspection.

Meanwhile, the residents continued their protest, demanding compensation to the boy’s family and punishment to the guilty officials.

The Kodekal Police rushed to the spot.
