Officials try to pacify a group of protesters, who demanded action against security personnel on election duty, in the Bandihatti area of Bellary on Sunday.

Polling was halted for sometime at a booth in the Bandihatti area of Bellary after a scuffle between a voter and central paramilitary force personnel on election duty.

The voter, Hanumanth, alleged that he was beaten up by a securityman, resulting in a minor bleeding injury. Reportedly, the trouble started as the policeman asked Mr. Hanumanth to show his photo identity card.

Even as the news of the alleged assault spread, a large number of people gathered at the polling booth demanding action against the securityman. Polling process could resume only after the intervention of senior police officials including Bellary (rural) DSP Rudramuni.

Mr. Hanumanth, who underwent treatment at the Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences in bellary, is likely to file a complaint against the securityman.

According to Amlan Aditya Biswas, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, the securityman involved in the incident has been shifted out of the polling booth.
