An 18-year-old boy from Khanapur dived to death in a swimming pool near Goaves under Tilakwadi police station limits in Belagavi on Wednesday afternoon.
Madan Shetty, who had come along with five other friends from Khanapur, had allegedly consumed alcohol before going to the swimming pool. He jumped from a diving pad, which was 2 mts above the water-level. Only at the end of their one-hour time did the friends notice that Madan was missing, said Swimming Coach Umesh Kalghatagi.
After diving into the water, he did not come out for quite sometime. Nobody noticed his body laying dead at the bottom of the pool.
When his body was fished out, blood was still flowing from his nose. The staff at the swimming pool informed the Ambulance Service and police. The police, after preliminary investigation at the spot, shifted the body to the District Government Hospital for post-mortem.
A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
