A software engineer, who was rendered unemployed for a prolonged period, killed his wife and daughter before attempting suicide but survived.

The incident came to light on Friday. The dead were identified as Savitha, 39, wife of Prajwal, and their daughter, Sinchana, 10, a IV standard student at a private school in the city.

Prajwal and Savitha were software engineers employed in Bengaluru. When Prajwal lost his job and could not find suitable employment, Savitha also resigned and they both relocated to Mysuru and lived in Vijayanagar IV stage.

Prajwal allegedly killed his wife and daughter on Wednesday and attempted suicide but failed. He later called his father, M. Ramachandra, and informed him of the developments following which the latter alerted the police who rushed to the scene and shifted Prajwal to hospital. The tension over job loss had resulted in frequent bickering between the couple. Prajwal, in his statement to the police, admitted to the crime. He confessed that he was dependent on his father for sustenance which mortified him and hence he decided to kill his wife and child and end his life as well.

Senior police officers, including Commissioner of Police Subramanyeshwara Rao, visited the scene of crime. The Vijayanagar police have registered a case.
