A day after the unnatural death of young IAS officer D.K. Ravi, his hometown of Kunigal and Huliyurdurga hobli observed total ‘bandh’ on Tuesday.
Shops and commercial establishments, schools and colleges were closed and the State-run buses of the KSRTC remained off the roads. Private buses, autorickshaws and other vehicles did not operate.
Lawyers in Kunigal town boycotted court work and marched in the streets. Students also joined the protests.
Protesters burnt tyres at Kunigal town circule and Huliyurdurga.
Several organisations took out protest marches demanding a high level inquiry into the death.
Crowds came out on to the roads in large numbers to express their anguish over the unnatural death of the popular and young IAS officer.
Mr Ravi, who was Joint Commissioner of Commercial Tax Department, was found hanging and dead at his apartment
in Bengaluru on Monday evening. He was from from Doddakoppalu in Kunigal taluk. Known for his honesty and integrity, Mr. Ravi had taken on the sand mining mafia in his earlier posting in Kolar and the property sector in Bengaluru.
