A teacher attached to the high school section of the Government Pre-University College at Sagar has been arrested on the charge of raping a minor girl who was his student.

The police identified him as Prakash, who taught Hindi. It is alleged that the accused asked the 15-year-old girl, a ninth standard student in the school, to come home to teach dance to his son, and he raped her there. The incident occurred in December 2017. In a complaint to the police, the girl’s mother alleged that upon learning that the student had become pregnant, he forcibly got the pregnancy terminated.

Following this, the police said, the girl had gone into depression, and she revealed the incident to her mother only recently. The complainant alleged that the accused had raped her daughter several times and was mentally harassing her on campus too.

Based on the complaint, the police have booked a case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and under POCSO Act against the teacher. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody till March 31.
