March 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Maruti Parashuram Kanagutkar (52), an assistant teacher at the Government Marathi Higher Primary School in Bijagarni in the Belagavi Rural Police station limits was beaten up by youth on Monday, for allegedly molesting a 12-year-old girl studying in the seventh standard.

The police rushed to the scene and took the teacher into custody. As the teacher was bleeding, the police shifted him to the district government hospital.

It all started when the incident, which occurred over a month ago, came to light on Monday when the girl spilled the beans. She had stopped going to school and her parents were pressuring her to return. She finally broke down and narrated the incident to her parents.

The teacher, who denied molesting the girl, alleged that the youth were supporters of a particular political party and had hatched a conspiracy to bring him disrepute. The police said the girl would be subjected to a medical examination.
