A special team of the Tamil Nadu police investigating the Bangalore blast case is inching towards the suspect who last possessed the motorcycle used to trigger the explosion, highly placed police sources said on Saturday.
Investigators probing the motorcycle’s ownership in the last few months hit upon a mobile phone number that gave certain leads in the case. Based on a study of the call records of the SIM card, which was later removed and used in another handset, police have rushed to a place in Kerala. The blast near the Bharatiya Janata Party office at Malleswaram in Bangalore on April 17 injured 17 persons, including a dozen police personnel.
“We are pursuing a couple of leads that might lead to a possible breakthrough. Almost all the numbers called or received by the suspect’s mobile appear to have been activated using fake identities or addresses. The State police are working in close coordination with its Karnataka counterpart and intelligence agencies of the Union government. A joint operation is on in Kerala and Karnataka,” a police official said.
Parrying questions on the affiliation of the suspects with any organisation or the source of the explosive, the official said only a few outfits had the modus operandi of targeting crowded markets or eateries. The nature of the explosive, source of chemicals used, etc. would be probed based on forensic findings.
