Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday termed “childish” Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s statement asking Karnataka to pay a compensation of Rs. 2,500 crore for crop loss following the failure of the State to release Cauvery waters as per the distress water-sharing formula envisaged by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in its interim award.
Tamil Nadu has filed a suit in the Supreme Court seeking Rs. 2,500 crore damages from Karnataka for loss of samba and kuruvai crops.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that Karnataka has been facing severe water crisis following the failure of monsoon last year and it had not been possible for the State to release the river waters for cultivation in the neighbouring State.
