‘Teertodbhava’, emerging of the ‘sacred water’ from the tiny pond called ‘Brahmakundike’ at Talacauvery, located at the foot of Brahmagiri Hills in Kodagu, is scheduled for 5.57 a.m. on Wednesday.
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly K.G. Bopaiah visited Bhagamandala and Talacauvery temples on Tuesday to take stock of the preparations.
He obtained information on the arrangements made to ensure smooth movement of vehicular traffic, uninterrupted power supply (even during the jathra days), flower decorations at the Talacauvery shrine, clean drinking water, toilet facilities and so on.
Manu Muthappa, president of the Bhagamandala and Talacauvery Temple Committee, told Mr. Bopaiah that dress code would be strictly enforced at both the temples. Devotees from the State, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are expected to witness the annual spectacle. The committee had made arrangements to provide food for devotees at two locations in Talacauvery, he said. The Public Works Department has repaired the Madikeri-Bhagamandala-Talacauvery road. Diesel generators have been kept ready to meet any emergency arising owing to power disruptions. Temporary toilets and drinking water facilities have been provided at both Bhagamandala and Talacauvery.
Special buses
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will run special buses from Madikeri and other destinations to Bhagamandala and Talacauvery on Wednesday and also on jatra days.
Officials of the Department of Health have been told to be prepared to meet healthcare needs of the devotees and also any emergency.Mr. Muthappa said a huge screen would be installed at Talacauvery to enable devotees to view the ‘teertodbhava’.
Superintendent of Police Manjunath Annigeri said 420 police personnel and 370 Home Guards had been deployed at the two pilgrimage centres.
