The Android app under the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) platform will be launched here on May 31. The app shares location-based information to commuters.
Students from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Mysuru, had developed the app, which will be available on Google Play store.
On the second day of Knowledge Sharing Workshop, the app — developed after an innovative ‘Appathon’ inviting students from various engineering colleges to develop user-friendly apps for smartphones — will be launched, sources in the KSRTC told The Hindu .
The list of buses based on user’s location; tracking the buses; time-table schedule; finding next buses at your location; buses nearby; women’s safety; alerts, and many more are among the features in the app.
Interestingly, the KSRTC had shared its real-time information on its intra-city bus operations, ‘big data’, with the students and accordingly told them to develop the app.
By accessing the app, commuters will get information on the number of buses and their arrival time near the commuters’ location.
The prime reason for taking the app route by the KSRTC is to encourage private transport users, especially the youth, to shift to public transport.
