Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep has directed revenue officials to take control of all the private borewells in rural areas for providing drinking water to all.

At an emergency drinking water review meeting held in Sindgi Taluk Panchayat on Wednesday, he said all the private borewells within a 1-km radius of the villages should be taken control of by the authorities.

Stating that it was the government’s order to take control of the private borewells and pay a suitable price for them, he said, “The Chief Minister and the District Minister have already issued clear instructions that officials must not allow drinking water or fodder scarcity in any village. Since rural areas are facing an acute water problem, the focus should be on these areas,” Mr. Randeep said.

He asked officials to identify the problem spots and address them immediately. “Though it is the order of the government to ensure drinking water to all, it is also mandatory to first check the quality of the water being supplied. Only then can you allow the water to be distributed,” he said.

He also asked officials to keep an eye out for water tankers carrying the posters of any political party now that the notification for the MLC elections for the graduates’ constituency has been announced.

Zilla panchayat CEO Sundresh Babu, Indi sub-division assistant commissioner Prakash Rajput, tahsildar G. S. Malagi and other officials were present.
