Take action against by-law violators: ACCI President

January 11, 2015 02:51 pm | Updated 02:51 pm IST - HUBBALLI

Taking exception to the unbridled violation of building by-laws in Hubballi and Dahrwad, President of the Hubballi Chapter of Association of Consulting Civil Engineers Suresh Kiresur has urged the municipal authorities to swing into action.

In a release issued here, Mr. Kiresur said that the municipal authorities had failed to ensure that the construction works carried out by individuals and firms after getting the building permission (BP) were in accordance with the building by-laws.

Mr. Kiresur has said that as there were no regular inspections made by the municipal officials after giving the building permission, the building by-laws were violated blatantly, many a times deliberately.

Referring to the some of the recently constructed structures in the twin cities, Mr. Kiresur has pointed out that in several buildings the set back area had not been left as per the bylaws. Such violations would not only affect the town planning of the twin cities but also add to the traffic chaos in the coming days, he has said.

He has said that while it was mandatory for the commercial buildings to provide adequate parking space in the cellars, in majority of the commercial buildings the parking space had been sold for running shops and commercial establishments, which was clear violation of building by-laws. The consequent result was people were forced to park their vehicles on roadside, which in turn was affecting the smooth vehicular movement, he said.

Corruption

Mr. Kiresur has said that while casual attitude of some officials was the reason for violation of by-laws continuing unabated, corruption by some HDMC officials had worsened the problem. The intervention by few politicians on by-law violation issues had further complicated the matter, he has said in the release.

Mr. Kiresur has urged the municipal commissioner to immediately take stern action against building by-law violators so that at least the future generation would not blame the existing officials for their apathy.
