T. Narsipur tahsildar B. Shankaraiah, 58, committed suicide in a guest house in the town. He left behind a suicide note in which he claimed that he was taking the extreme step on account of excessive workload.
Mr. Shankaraiah was transferred to T. Narsipur from Mandya a couple of months ago. He checked into the guest house on Tuesday night and was found hanging on Wednesday morning.
Additional Superintendent of Mysuru district police N. Rudramani told The Hindu that Mr. Shankaraiah had, in the suicide note, pointed out that he had even sought a transfer, which had not been accepted. He sought forgiveness from his wife and advised his brother to go ahead with the scheduled marriage of his daughter.
Mr. Shankaraiah leaves behind wife, a daughter and two sons one of whom is studying while another is working.
Though Mr. Shankaraiah had not mentioned any health problems in the death note, police sources said his colleagues said he would talk about his health problems adding to his woes.
Minister for Public Works and Minister in charge of the district H.C. Mahadevappa said the death was “unfortunate”, in a press statement, and conveyed his condolences.
