The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports has said that the swimming pool at Chamundi Vihar stadium would be ready by the end of April.

The construction of the state-of-the-art facility at the stadium, conceived about 10 years ago, had run into trouble after a land dispute over the spot identified for the purpose. After a new spot was identified and the government approved the revised project at a cost of Rs. 3.62 crore in 2012, work was carried out briskly, claimed Assistant Director of Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports K. Suresh. The construction of the main pool measuring 50m X 25m and a warm-up pool is almost complete. Work is under way on the construction of a balancing tank, filtration unit and green room. The Director of Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports is monitoring the progress of the work, he added.

Mr. Suresh said an electronic touch pad, necessary for holding national-level competitions, will also be installed at the swimming pool.

The pool will be part of the aquatic complex planned at the stadium. “A diving pool with a depth of 12m will come up in the second phase,” he said.

The swimming pool will be thrown open to the general public as well. The early completion of pool is eagerly awaited by swimming enthusiasts, who have access to only one pool in the University of Mysore in Saraswathipuram.
