Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday alleged that the economic policies of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government were responsible for the present financial condition of the country, which had resulted in price rise.
According to him, if the National Democratic Alliance comes to power, India will be economically strong by 2020 and a leading global economic power by 2025.
Interacting with people from various fields, including businessmen, doctors and mediapersons, here, Dr. Swamy said the auction of 2G spectrum, coal blocks and oilfields would have fetched the government a far higher revenue that would have helped improve the economic condition of the country.
He credited the former Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, for having ushered in economic reforms and alleged that because of that the Congress never treated him well.
Dr. Swamy said black money had ruined the Indian economy. He said Rs. 120 lakh crore was deposited in foreign banks and sought to know why the UPA government could not bring it back.
BJP manifesto In a statement from Delhi Dr. Swamy said the BJP manifesto was a supreme balanced view of what was needed to make India a global power with cultural coherence. In particular the emphasis on innovation, skill development, tax reform, and decentralisation of power were essential for modernisation of the economy. With these reforms the Indian economy would grow at over 10 per cent per year in GDP and remove poverty in 5 years.
