Support JD(S) in polls: Gowda

April 09, 2014 01:05 pm | Updated November 27, 2021 06:54 pm IST - Tumkur:

Janata Dal (Secular) national president H.D. Deve Gowda has appealed to people to support the party in the Lok Sabha elections if they wanted “a Kannadiga (himself) to become Prime Minister”.

Addressing party workers here on Tuesday, Mr. Gowda said “If I do not become Prime Minister, I would want to be in a position where I can decide who the Prime Minister should be.”

He said BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi would not become the Prime Minister as “the BJP will not come to power at the Centre.” He claimed the Congress would also fail. The alternative front would definitely succeed, and either Mulayam Singh Yadav, president of Samajwadi Party, or Chief Ministers Nitish Kumar (Bihar), Jayalalithaa (Tamil Nadu), or Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal) would be Prime Minister.

Allegation

He alleged that Mr. Modi was “lying” about the IT hub in Bangalore stating that it established during the NDA government’s rule. Mr. Gowda said the foundation stone was laid during his term as Prime Minister.
