Supply sand to rural people to build toilets in houses: official

March 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - Mysuru:

Scarcity of sand even in rural places of Mysuru district figured at the district vigilance committee meeting held here on Saturday.

Pushpa Amaranth, president of the Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, and Madappa, Vice-President of the ZP, said that sand was not available in rural places in the district and people who carry bags of sand on bicycles and scooters to build toilets or cowsheds in their houses were being arrested by the police. They urged the MPs R. Dhruvanarayana and Pratap Simha to prevail upon the district administration to provide sand to rural places to build toilets and other structures.

Mr. Madappa said that on the one hand the ZP was asking people to build toilets in their houses and on the other hand it was pleading helplessness when people asked the ZP to supply them sand to build toilets. He asked the MPs to direct the Deputy Commissioner to provide at least 10 loads of sand to each GP and let the GP supply it to people who want to build toilets in their houses.
