Come summer, children in Mysuru will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in hands-on and fun science activities. The working principles of the science behind a merry-go-round or a giant wheel, scientific techniques of food production and storage, the making of agarbatis and soaps and others will all be among the areas to be covered as part of a “Summer of Science”, a free programme organised by the Science Ashram.
As a hands-on Science Centre, the Science Ashram seeks to promote learning through experiments.
As part of the “Summer of Science” a programme targeted for children in the age-group of 9 to 14, the participants can “immerse themselves in fascinating activities, hands-on events, educational talks and entertaining field trips showcasing science, technology, engineering and mathematics that add up to a day of fun and learning”, said Dhruva V. Rao, a founder of Science Ashram.
“Summer of Science” is scheduled to start from April 1. Except for star-gazing, the programme starts at 10 a.m. and concludes by 1 p.m.
“It is a unique and fun way of experiencing science this summer,” he said, adding that the programme includes star gazing sessions, educational talks from eminent scientists, besides field trips. The field trips will include visits to GRS Fantasy Park to understand the working principle of different rides, industrial unit of N. Ranga Rao and Sons to know the science behind the making of agarbati, CFTRI to appreciate the various techniques of mass food production and storage, Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Lts., and Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation.
The programme seeks to bridge the gap between the theory concepts the students learn from Science text books and their practical applications in the real world. To collect passes for the programme, interested students can contact Ph: 99808-78105 or send an email to info@scienceashram.com
