In addition to being offered grocery at the existing police canteen at the premises of the District Armed Reserve Police office in the city, police personnel will soon be provided food at subsidised rates there.

The entire premises has been revamped and refurbished. A fresh coat of paint has been given to the walls, and the furniture has been designed in an attractive manner using drums and old tyres. Superintendent of Police Ravi Channanavar says the canteen will start functioning soon under the District Police Vividodesha Sahakara Sangha.

The rates

Police personnel can get a plate of meals/ breakfast by paying Rs. 10, while a cup of coffee will be priced at Rs. 5. An amount of Rs 1.5 lakh from the sangha will be invested as seed capital to begin services. The idea is to run the canteen on a ‘no-profit, no-loss’ basis, Mr. Channanavar said.

Police personnel visiting the city for issuance of warrants, bandobast duty, for elections and on other official assignments too can get subsidised food at the canteen.

Two constables will be deputed to monitor its functioning. Surveillance cameras have been installed at the premises.

The SP said a bakery too will be established adjacent to the canteen. There is also a plan to sell medicines too at subsidised rates for policemen.
