Extensive preparations are under way for the SSLC examinations this year in an attempt to ensure that Mysuru district ranks among the top five in the State.

The headmasters of 232 government schools took part in a workshop organised by the Education Department here on Tuesday. Experts provided information about how to prepare students to face the examination with optimism. The heads of schools were trained on how to prepare students with examination fear.

Mysuru district had performed poorly in the SSLC examinations last year and stood 26th in the State.

The SSLC Board has issued blueprints of question papers of all the six subjects to school authorities. The blueprint states that understanding, knowledge, skill, and application levels are prominent factors on which the questions papers would be prepared.

It also gave a hint on the weightage for each chapter and instructed the Deputy Director of Public Instruction to prepare question papers for the preparatory examinations on the basis of the blueprints. Besides, the board has sent three model question papers to all the districts.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction H.R. Basappa told The Hindu that headmasters and teachers have been asked to ensure that students pass the examinations with good marks so that the district would be among the top five in the State.

He said the headmasters and teachers would be held responsible for poor performance. Mr. Basappa said that a majority of schools in the district completed the syllabus in December.

Students were made to write unit tests after completion of each of the lessons from the beginning to ensure that students had grasped the subjects thoroughly.

Special classes were being conducted both in the morning prior to regular classes and in the evening after the regular classes for students who were lagging behind in studies, he said.
