Students shine in THiS chess competition

Siddhant Dharwad of Appa Public School and Jayanti Lahoti of the same school bagged the first prizes in the senior boys and girls category, respectively, in the “Make A Move For Greatness,” a chess competition, organised by The Hindu in School (THiS) and Thyrocare, at Sharanabasaveshwar Residential Public School, here on Monday.

In the junior boys and girls categories, Aneesh Aparanji and Sakshi S. Auradkar (both students of SRN Mehta School), emerged victorious, respectively.

In the sub-junior boys and girls categories, Yash Anchaliya and Divisha Tapadiya (both students of Kenbridge School), bagged the top prizes, respectively.

Director of the Physical Education Department of Gulbarga University, N.S. Pasodi, gave away the prizes to the winners.

Mr. Pasodi congratulated the winners and wished them all the best for their future. Mr. Pasodi also lauded the initiative taken by THiS for organising the chess tournament for the first time in Kalaburagi city and also for providing the young chess masters a platform to test their ability.

G.K. Prasad, senior faculty, Sharanabasaveshwar Residential Public School and Suresh G. Havaldar of Sharanabsaveshwar Composite PU College, complimented the The Hindu for organsing the event.

Pramod Raj Moree, international chess player, and the president of the United Karnataka Chess Association, who acted as an arbiter, said that the quality of the players who participated in the tournament was of the highest order.

The response to the chess tournament was overwhelming and more than 240 entries in all the three categories were received from more than 10 schools in Kalaburagi and Bidar districts. The winners were given away trophies, merit certificates and medals. All the participants were also given participation certificates.

While, Sharanabasappa (Sharanabasaveshwar Residential Public School) and Anand Harjee Singh (Chandrakant Patil School) won the third and fourth spot in the senior boys category, respectively, C.R. Sannidi (Sharanabsaveshwar Residential Public School) and B.M. Lakshmi (Mahadevi Girls High School) won the third and fourth spots in the senior girls category, respectively. L.I. Nagabhushan (Sharanabasaveshwar Residential Public School) and Parshwa (Kenbridge School) won the third and fourth spot in the boys junior section, respectively and Shriya M. Jaju (Chandrakant Patil School) and N.K. Arundhati (Sharanabasveshwar Residential Public School) bagged the third and fourth spot in the girls junior category, respectively.

In the boys sub-junior category, Eshaan (Kenbridge School) and Prasad Motagi (SBR School) bagged the third and fourth spot respectively, and in the girls sub-junior category Vinaya Chowdhary (Manik Public School, Bidar) and Ananya Thirupathi (Chandrakant Patil School) came third and fourth, respectively.
