A large number of second-year Pre-University course students boycotted classes on Monday and staged a dharna in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The students, organised under the banner of district unit of Students Federation of India (SFI), sought continuation of ‘Blow-up syllabus’ for the science stream of second-year PU course.
A recent circular by the Pre-University Education Board directing to prepare with the NCERT syllabus, has caused confusion among the students as well as the teaching faculty, the protesters alleged. The Board has directed to prepare question papers for the preparatory and final examinations also in tune with NCERT syllabus.
Terming the circular as unscientific, the organisation demanded that it be revoked and the old system should be continued.
The circular, which was issued at a time when the fag end of the academic year is approaching and the students are preparing for the practical examinations from March 12, has left in the students in the lurch, it said.
If the students have to be prepared as per the NCERT syllabus it will hamper their studies and their future will be in the doldrums, SFI district president K. Vasudeva Reddy said.
