Preponement of Economics exam goes unnoticed

Nearly 1,500 students pursuing their Bachelor of Arts courses in different colleges affiliated to Gulbarga University are on the verge of losing their eligibility to avail themselves of scholarships given by the State government due to the bungling committed by the university authorities in fixing and re-fixing dates of the examination of one of the subjects.

According to information available, Gulbarga University, which originally fixed the dates for the examination of the Economics paper of the second semester of Bachelor of Arts course on May 3, postponed it to May 24 due to some administrative reasons. This was duly informed to all colleges which, in turn, put up the information on their notice boards.

However, the university authorities for reasons best known to them once again changed the date of the examination to May 4. Though this was published on the university website, the preponement went unnoticed and none of the colleges brought this information to the knowledge of the students who were preparing for the examination on May 24.

None of the colleges put up this information on their notice boards, which is mandatory.

Much to the chagrin of the students who came to the examination centres for writing the examination on May 24, they were told by the college authorities that the Economics paper examination had been held on May 4 and that they can go back.

The indifferent attitude of the university authorities concerned and the principals of the degree colleges which conducted these examinations will cost the students heavily as the scholarships due to them would not be given to them as they would now be deemed to have failed in one subject during the pursuance of their degree course.

The affected students who are in a state of shock have now proposed to take up the issue with the university authorities on Thursday and seek a re-examination of the economics paper.
