Students of the mechanical engineering department of the SMV Institute of Technology and Management have developed a solar air cooling system using a vapour pressurisation unit.

Students of the mechanical engineering department of Bantakal-based SMV Institute of Technology and Management have designed and fabricated a compressor unit which utilises solar energy in air coolers.

A press release issued by the institute here on Friday said that shortage of electricity, global warming were the challenges faced by all. Considering this situation, the students of had developed the compressor unit which utilises solar energy in air coolers.

A student team comprising Preetam Shetty, Rao Prabhakar, Sumanth and Sushmalatha designed the air cooling system which utilised solar energy to replace the mechanical compressor. The refrigerant used in compressor is heated using the concentrated solar radiation. Design and fabrication of compressor unit in air coolers was an excellent idea to get a cooled air in less time and at a lower price compared to the normally available air cooler in the market, the release added.
