Students of Karnataka law society’s Gogte Institute of Technology have excelled in various events internationally. They have won prizes in events conducted by Stanford University, California Institute of Technology, University of Singapore and other agencies, U.N. Kalkundrikar, Chairman of the college governing board told presspersons in Belagavi on Saturday.
‘Vayuputra,’ a team of six students from mechanical engineering stream, had created a light weight aeroplane capable of carrying small pay loads. This could be dismantled and stored in a cylinder of six inch diameter. They won the third prize in the SAE Aero Design West contest organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers in the U.S. Of the 75 teams which participated from around the world, GIT was the only college from north Karnataka, he said.
Shriya Hukkeri and Samarth Mendke were selected as University innovation fellows by Stanford University. They participated in the UIF Silicon Valley meet up in the U.S. in March. They are now working on new teaching–learning models.
Mandar Meharwade’s paper on ‘Comparative study of automotive composite materials with fiber reinforcements’ at the World Automotive conference in Busan in South Korea was considered among the 14 best submissions.
A scientific short film ‘The Guardian’ received the runners up award at the international film festival on quantum physics. Chetan Kotabage, a faculty in Physics, and a group of students created the film. The film won the award in Quantum Shorts, organised by National university of Singapore.
The college will start a four year bachelor of engineering in Aeronautics from this year. The only course in north Karnataka is backed by industry leaders in aviation.
The college has placed over 900 students in various companies and provided 110 internships and over 65 professional practice offers for Bachelor of Architecture students.
