Students become bankers for a day

April 04, 2012 11:25 am | Updated 11:25 am IST - Hassan:

A classroom in the Government First Grade College for Women in Hassan was converted into a mock bank on Tuesday. Students pursuing M.Com and B.B.M. courses in the college donned the role of bank staff and entertained enquiries about the procedure to open a savings bank account, to take a demand draft and to apply for bank loan.

The attempt was to create awareness about banking transactions among students of the college as part of Commerce and Management Day celebrations. Ghousia Kouser, first-year M.Com student, was the branch manager of the mock bank. She told The Hindu that such an exercise would help students understand bank activities better. “We replicated Vijaya Bank's Hassan branch in the classroom. We went to the branch and studied its set up. We replicated it here. Students of the college enquire about the bank transactions and we explain it to them in detail”, she said. Students pursuing Company Secretary course converted their classrooms into BSNL office, and the Reserve Bank of India.

Manager of Vijaya Bank Raviraj Shetty inaugurated the exhibition.
