A college student was killed when he fell off the rear exit after the driver of the government bus in which he was travelling applied brakes suddenly in Uppunda village on Friday.
According to the police, Raghavendra Shetty (21), a final year student of B.B. Hegde College, boarded a Karnataka Road Transport Corporation bus to go to his college in Kundapur. After moving about 100 metres, the driver suddenly applied brakes. As a result, Raghavendra, who was among those who boarded the bus last, fell from the rear exit.
A severely injured Raghavendra was rushed to the Government Hospital in Kundapur, where doctors pronounced him brought dead. A case had been registered at the Byndoor police station.
Students, who were agitated by the incident, blocked National Highway 66. They said there were very few buses in the peak hours and students had jostle to reach their college in Kundapur. Soon, Superintendent of Police, K. Annamalai, reached the spot and pacified the students.
