Strong winds uproot trees in twin cities

Despite rain, there were no reports of areas getting flooded

Several trees were uprooted in the twin cities following strong winds and downpour on Monday. No casualties were reported.

In Hubli, trees in the Gokul Road extension bore the brunt of the damage.

Trees were uprooted at Silver Town, Nehru Nagar, Apoorva Nagar, Sirur Park, Shakti Nagar, Green Garden and Manjunath Nagar. At Ravi Nagar, as many as four trees were uprooted. Structures were damaged in some areas. In Dharwad, several trees were uprooted near Toll Naka, Vishwabharati Colony, Kalyan Nagar and other areas. Electricity poles were damaged, resulting in a power shutdown in several areas.

In Hubli, the Hubli Electricity Supply Company (Hescom) stopped power supply as a precautionary measure.

Although it rained heavily again after a brief break, there were no reports of flooding of roads and drains and low-lying areas getting inundated in the twin cities.
