The State government will exploit the reach and connectivity of street plays to popularise its social welfare programmes among the public, said District in-charge Minister V. Srinivas Prasad here on Sunday.
The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the five-day street play training programme in the city.
Mr. Srinivas Prasad said no other medium can replace street plays when it comes to outreach and influencing the public and hence the State government was serious about exploiting its potential to popularise goverment programmes.
The amateur and professional artistes were already popularising some of the welfare schemes like Anna Bhagya, Ksheera Bhagya, Maitri, and Manaswini, Mr. Srinivas Prasad said.
N.R.Vishukumar, Director, Department of Information and Publicity, said the artistes for street plays are roped in from rural areas and hence they adapt to the local lingo for better and more effective communication with the rural audience.
Mr. Vishukumar advised the artistes to imagine that they are in conversation and interaction with the public rather than enacting a play for more effective communication with the audience.
Training is being imparted to two artistes from each district in the State and they in turn are expected to train their fellow artistes following which the theatre artistes should propagate government programmes, said Gurumurthy, Deputy Director of the department.
Janardhan, Director, Rangayana, said artistes will create awareness on State government programmes through street plays.
