Officials of the Forest Department and the police continued their efforts for the second day on Tuesday to drive the two elephants that got separated from their herd on Monday back into the forest area.

The two elephants, which were spotted at Kallhatti village on Monday, had injured two youth who were among residents who started throwing stones at the pachyderms in a bid to drive them back into the forests.

On Tuesday, the same elephants were spotted in Adivala, Vaddarhatti and Bagganadu villages in Hiriyur taluk of the district. Based on information collected from drones, the officials said that the elephants are headed towards Tumakuru district.

For a whole day, the officials made all possible efforts to divert the animals into the forests by bursting crackers.

The officials also took all precautionary measures to ensure that the elephants did not harm people in the villages en route .
