State Road Transport Bus service would come to a standstill all over the State on April 30 when its employees, under the banner of KSRTC Staff and Workers Federation, would be supporting the 24-hour-long nation-wide strike to protest against the Road Transport Safety Bill — 2014 brought in by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.
‘Threatened’
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, T.L. Rajagopal, Joint Secretary of the Federation, along with H.V. Adimurthy, president of the district unit and other leaders, said that the very existence of the State Road Transport Corporations in the country was threatened by the bill, which proposes to give a free hand to private operators on any route without any restrictions.
“The Bill would only help the private sector and severely affect the State Road Transport Corporations. Besides giving a go-by to social concerns, it would severely affect thepublic.
Specifics
It proposes exemplary punishment for accidents. It is also anti-worker in policy and we are strongly opposing it,” he said.
There would not be bus services for about 24 hours from 6 a.m. on April 30, he said.
