As the Union government has reduced the kerosene quota for Karnataka, the State government is contemplating reducing the quantity of kerosene being given to ration card holders under public distribution system (PDS), Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, has said.

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Rao said, the Union government had reduced the kerosene quota for the State by 7 per cent.

Therefore, the government was unable to provide the full quantity of kerosene allotted to each card holder.

The government had decided to reduce the quantity by one litre. The State government would distribute at least 15,000 ration cards to eligible families in the next two months, he said.

Earlier, Mr. Gundu Rao inspected the paddy and millets procurement centres set up in Mandya and later, he visited the procurement centres opened in K.R. Pet.

In all, 19 direct procurement centres would be opened in Mandya district for the benefit of farmers. Of them, nine had already been set up at different places. The remaining 10 procurement centres would be established shortly, he said.
