State budget disappoints Vijayapura

The budget presented by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday, has disappointed the people of Vijayapura while giving some satisfaction to people of Bagalkot.

With regard to Vijayapura, except two major announcements - funds earmarked for the development of tourism and establishment of a regional science centre - no other significant projects were announced.

The farmers, in particular are unhappy because they expected announcement of processing centres for horticulture crops like grape and pomegranate.

MLC Arun Shahpur said that the budget was anti-education. In a release, he said that no special grants were given for the development of the Women’s University in Vijayapura, which is the only such University in the State.

“The only thing announced for the University is the establishment of study centre in the name of noted mathematician astrologist, Bhaskaracharya in celebration of his 900th birth anniversary”, he said.

Bonanza for Bagalkot

While no significant projects were announced for Vijayapura, Bagalkot district has succeeded in getting projects including an IT park.

The IT/BT and District In­charge Minister S.R. Patil has been pressing for establishment of IT parks in North Karnataka region.

Mr. Siddaramaiah has also announced development of Kudalasangam, a pilgrim place on the lines of Akshardham Temple for developing tourism.

Funds allocated for the development of Badami, Pattadakallu and Aihole towns, establishment of Virology Centre for detecting contagious diseases such as H1N1, Malaria, Dengue etc, establishment of Organic Jaggery Park in Mudhol taluk and funds granted for promoting the traditional Ilkal Saree.

Meanwhile, Vijayapura city MLA, Makbul Bagwan has called the budget, pro­people and thanked Mr. Siddaramaiah for granting funds for tourism and science centre.

BJP has termed the budget, anti­farmer.

District president of the BJP, S.K. Bellubbi, in a release here, said that no major projects for the development of irrigation and agriculture were announced for Vijayapura district.
