Workers of the city unit of Bharatiya Janata Party staged a demonstration in front of Belagavi City Corporation office to protest against the alleged delay in implementation of the ambitious Smart City Project (SCP).
The protest was led by former minister Shashikant Nayak and Rajeev Topananvar, who later submitted a memorandum to the BCC Commissioner Shashidhar Kerur demanding to prevail upon the concerned authorities to commence works under the SCP without further delay.
They said though Belagavi City was selected for the SCP in the first round, wherein a total of 20 cities were picked for the project across the country eight months ago, no work had commence so far. Though the offices of Belagavi Smart City Limited for executing the SCP were opened three months ago, there was none to provide any information on the status of the project. Except the Director, no appointments had been made so far to make the company functional yet.
They pointed out that in respect of some other cities selected under the SCP, consultants had been already appointed, detailed project reports prepared and development works commenced. But, there was virtually no progress in the city.
