Standards of journalism have deteriorated: MLC

September 11, 2013 10:26 am | Updated June 02, 2016 11:04 am IST - HUBLI:

Basavaraj Horatti, MLC, said that commitment and standards were “deteriorating in all fields” and journalism was no exception.

He was addressing a gathering after releasing a Kannada book ‘Itihaasada Haadigunta Saadhakara Saalu’ written by senior journalist Shivanand Joshi here on Sunday. The function was organised jointly by the Madhyama Mattu Saarvajanik Hitasakti Pratishthan and the State Information Centre, Hubli.

Mr. Horatti said that during the 1990s effective and enlightening reports appeared in the newspapers which in turn led to initiation of various developmental projects. However, such kind of reportage was not to be seen now-a-days, he felt.

The number of professional and committed journalists has decreased substantially, but there are still those who do not compromise their commitment; among them is Mr. Joshi, he said.

Releasing the book ‘Patrikodyama: Vrutti Margadarshi’, also written by Mr. Joshi, trade union leader K.S. Sharma elaborated on the present scenario of the media.

I.G. Sanadi, former MP, presided over the function. Mr. Joshi said that he had made an honest attempt to guide those entering the field of journalism through his book on the subject.

Journalists Shridevi Itagi and Gopalkrishna Hegde spoke on the books released.
