St. Lawrence Shrine elevated to status of minor basilica

St. Lawrence Shrine at Attur near Karkala has been elevated to the status of a minor basilica by Pope Francis through the sacred congregation for the divine worship and discipline of sacraments.

A press release issued by the Udupi Catholic Diocese here stated that Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Baptist Menezes, Vicar General, Fr. George D’Souza, rector of the shrine and his team of priests and lay leaders with the shrine committee had helped in the documentation work.

The St. Lawrence Shrine is a major pilgrim centre in Udupi district. The annual feast of this shrine attracts thousands of devotees from different parts of the State and the country.
