Teachers and students at Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind in Bengaluru have a reason to celebrate. All the 10 students who took the SSLC exam from the school this year have passed, and eight have secured a first class.
Renuka Rathod secured 80%. “A lot of people discouraged me, but I never gave up,” said an elated Renuka, who has scored the highest among her classmates. “Many told me that class 10 board exams were difficult to crack. Even my parents were not supportive, but I’m happy that I proved them wrong,” she said.
Renuka wants to become a bank manager and has decided to pursue commerce in pre-university. Mathematics is a tough subject for her, but she is ready to face the next challenge.
Nalina Sivakumar, a teacher, said, “Mathematics is a challenging subject for the visually challenged. Also, from the exam perspective, they do not have to attempt the geometry section, which carries 10 marks. But we teachers ensure that our students don’t give up.”
