Veteran politician V. Srinivas Prasad who quit the Congress and contested the Nanjangud byelections on a BJP ticket and lost, has announced his retirement from electoral politics.

Mr. Prasad who lost by a margin of more than 21,000 votes, told mediapersons in Mysuru that he will however continue to be in active politics. “This was my 13th elections and I have already said that this would be my last elections and I say it again’’, he said. He was elected MP from Chamarajanagar on five occasions and was elected MLA from Nanjangud (Reserved) constituency in 2008 and 2013.

He said he had no regrets and has seen it all in politics and stood by his decision to quit the Congress for what he perceived was a slight to his self-respect by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who had dropped him from the Cabinet last year.

Mr. Prasad had made “Dalit pride” as the main plank of his campaign during the byelection.
