The issue of alleged large scale corruption in the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Mysuru from 2008-14, took a new twist today with Revenue Minister and District-in-charge of Mysuru V. Srinivas Prasad favouring for Lokayukta probe.

The Director-General of ATI, Rashmi V. had recommended for a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation or Lokayukta against six officials including senior IAS official Amitha Prasad. She had also submitted a detailed report to the Chief Secretary Koushik Mukherjee in this regard.

Speaking to presspersons on Friday, Mr. Prasad said that, though the government had asked Additional Chief Secretary T.M. Vijayabhaskar to investigate the case following report by Ms. Rashmi. “As the alleged scam spanned six years and involved over Rs.100 crore, I am favouring a Lokayukta probe”, he said.

Clarifying that there was no question of “burying the scam”, he said that he was in favour of Lokayukta probe, as it was difficult to probe scam of this magnitude. “I have also spoken in this regard to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is seized of the matter”, he added.

Pre-planned attack

On the physical attack on Ms. Rashmi, he said; it was now proved beyond doubt that the attack on her was pre-planned and there was a lapse by the police department in extending security. “I don’t know why police refused to deploy force even after having intelligence report about unrest in the campus. However, following my suggestion a probe by Crime Investigation Department had been ordered in to the issue of assault on Ms. Rashmi”, he added.

Meanwhile, there are apprehensions in political circle about the Chief Minister agreeing for Lokayukta probe demanded by Mr. Prasad. Mr. Vijayabhaskar who started investigation found a prima facie case in the allegations made by Ms. Rashmi and Mr. Siddaramaiah told Mr. Prasad that he would consider the possibility of ordering Lokayukta probe, after getting final report of Vijayabhaskar.

Sources close to Mr. Prasad said that, he is hell bent on Lokayukta probe, as he wanted to clear doubts in the minds of the people on the misappropriation of funds in the state’s premier Institute.
