Sringeri shootout: magisterial inquiry concludes

March 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Chikkamagaluru:

A magisterial inquiry into the Anti-Naxal Force shootout that took place at the Tanikodu check-post near Sringeri on April 19, 2014 has been completed. The Deputy Commissioner, in his report to the State government, said the firing was unintentional and circumstances prompted Naveen Naik, an ANF staff, to open fire. In the shootout, Kabir (24), a native of Krishnapura near Mangaluru, was killed. B.S. Shekharappa, Deputy Commissioner of Chikkamagaluru, said the check-post area was highly sensitive. “In the past, suspected Maoists had attacked the check-post, prompting the ANF to keep strong vigil there,” he said.

It is said that Kabir’s family had refused to cooperate with the inquiry.
