Sringeri shootout: DYFI protests, demands probe

April 26, 2014 01:02 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 01:31 pm IST - Hassan:

Hassan district unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India, here on Friday, staged a protest demanding a CBI inquiry into the Anti-Naxal Force shootout at Tanikodu in Sringeri taluk.

A youth had died in the incident.

The protesters staged a dharna in front of the Hemavati Statue in the city.

Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India remarked that the situation did not warrant firing by the ANF, and the people travelling in the goods carrier were not carrying weapons.

Room for suspicion

“The deceased had a bullet injury in his chest, offering room to suspect the ANF’s conduct. Members of the Bajrang Dal allegedly assaulted relatives of the deceased. The government should hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI and suspend the ANF staff,” said M.G. Pruthvi, secretary of the federation’s Hassan district committee.
