Welcoming the government decision to extend the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the illegal export of iron ore from two more ports in Goa and Karnataka, Samaj Parivartan Samudaya (SPS) has urged the government to entrust the investigation into the alleged “illegalities and criminalities” in Mysore Minerals Ltd. (MML) too to the agency.
The government has entrusted the investigation into the illegal extraction of iron ore for domestic consumption, the illegalities allegedly committed by different companies and individuals and the alleged irregularities by MML officials to the Lokayukta police.
Politicians involved
S.R. Hiremath, president, SPS, said representative of all political parties were involved in the irregularities in MML and it would become difficult for the Lokayukta to conduct a fair probe.
There was a separate chapter in the report by the former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde on MML and the Comptroller and Auditor General too had indicted senior officials, politicians and corporate giants. “Only a CBI probe can ensure justice in the case,” he added.
Welcoming the probe ordered by government into the finances of SPS, he said if anybody expected that it would slow down their relentless fight against illegal mining, they would be disappointed.
