Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed confidence here on Tuesday that the Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2015, for splitting the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) into two or more corporations, would be passed in the Legislative Council. The Bill was passed in the Assembly on Monday.
The Bill would be placed in the Council on Thursday, the Chief Minister told reporters here at the Lalitha Mahal Palace helipad here. He was here to participate in Basava Jayanti celebrations, among other programmes.
Arguing that splitting the BBMP had become necessary to ensure development and good governance, he said Bengaluru had become a brand by itself and its development needed priority. The city needs good development in addition to visible and competent governance to take it forward, he said.
On leading an all-party delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him on the Mekedatu drinking water project, Mr. Siddaramaiah said, “We could not get the PM’s appointment for Wednesday and therefore his availability during April 27 to 30 had been sought for taking the delegation.”
The Bill will be placed in the Legislative Council tomorrow
