Sharat. B, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer, has instructed officials to speed up the process of distributing compensation to families of farmers who committed suicide in the district.
At the general body meeting of the Zilla Panchayat on Wednesday, Joint Director of Agriculture Ravindra Nath Sugur said that State Government had released compensation for nine of the 12 reported cases of farmers’ suicides.
One has been ruled to be an accidental electrocution and details of two other cases have been sent to the forensic laboratory, he said. The compensation amount has been hiked to Rs. two lakh for suicides after April, he said. The State Government has released cheques for nine cases. MLAs are supposed to hand over the relief cheques to affected families. The offices of the MLAs have been intimated, the officer said.
The ZP CEO asked officials to seek the appointment of MLAs soon and complete distribution of cheques immediately.
