Autorickshaw and taxi drivers will be roped in as unofficial “ambassadors” of Mysuru tourism and will be trained to act as guides.

A mobile application will be developed to provide tourism-related information of Mysuru and surrounding areas to facilitate the drivers to guide visitors.

This was decided at the stakeholders’ meet held on Saturday.

Content development

The digital content will be developed by local software enterprises and will be made available to auto and cab drivers so as to shore up their knowledge.

Around 100 auto and cab drivers will be roped in for the purpose and a meeting with them will be arranged to take forward the idea.

A ‘shopping on wheels’ has also been mooted under which souvenirs priced between Rs. 50 and Rs. 500 can be purchased from craft shops.

However, it was perceived that the city lacked a strong website providing tourism-related information and hence, this will be taken up for development on a priority basis, said S.V. Venkatesh of RiiiT.

Besides, a community radio within 30 km to 40 km radius of the city has also been proposed to promote tourism, the details of which are yet to be fine tuned.
