If things go as per the plans of the Water Resources Department, you can soon take a cruise from Alamatti reservoir to the picturesque Karwar through Honnavar. And for those in the southern region, a floating restaurant will come up on the backwaters of the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS).

Well, these are the components of a big plan drawn up by the department to develop its major reservoirs and their backwaters as tourism destinations.

Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil told reporters here on Tuesday that cruise ride had also been planned from Narayanapura reservoir to Alamatti through the pilgrimage place of Basavakalyan. An estimate for Rs. 94.71 crore had been prepared to turn the Alamatti dam area into a tourism destination. Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Ltd. Consultants had been entrusted with the task of preparing a proposal, he said. While a youth hostel would be built downstream of the Kabini reservoir, Gorur dam area would be developed as a tourism centre, he said.
