Somashekara Reddy sheds tears over jailed brother

‘Chanakya may be in jail, but Chandragupta (Sriramulu) will capture power'

June 18, 2012 12:17 pm | Updated 12:17 pm IST - BANGALORE:

There was some melodrama at the valedictory of former minister B. Sriramulu's padayatra in Bangalore with Karnataka Milk Federation Chairman G. Somashekara Reddy becoming emotional while remembering how his brother, G. Janardhan Reddy, is in prison when the new party was being launched.

He shed tears while saying: “My brother Janardhan Reddy should have been present at this important function. But he is in jail.”

Quickly regaining his composure, Mr. Somashekara Reddy hit back at those responsible for such a situation and said: “Chanakya (Janardhan Reddy) may have been in judicial custody, but Chandragupta (referring to B. Sriramulu) will build the empire and capture power.”

Describing himself as Anjaneya, who was known for his loyalty to Lord Rama, Mr. Somashekara Reddy said: “I will strive to make Sriramulu the Chief Minister.”

Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party, he maintained that the victory of BJP in Bellary district was only due to Mr. Sriramulu. “People had actually voted for Mr. Sriramulu and not for athe BJP in athe 2008 polls as it was he who led the party in Bellary district. Otherwise, the BJP candidate would not have lost his deposit in the recent bypoll after Mr. Sriramulu quit the BJP,” he said.

Mr. Somashekara Reddy claimed that he had nothing to do with a judge being bribed in Andhra Pradesh to get bail for his brother. Some people jealous that the Bellary Reddy brothers who came from a humble background had made it big in politics and business were trying to tarnish their image by framing allegations, he alleged.
